Hair removal

About this field

Hair removal at Medest means removing unwanted hair under the supervision of a dermatologist. There are several methods, and they work differently, so the choice depends on hair color and thickness, skin type, and the treatment area.

What this service area includes

  • Laser hair removal — with Candela GentleLase Pro and DEKA lasers, for women and men; suitable for dark hair, including large areas;
  • Photoepilation (IPL) — hair removal with intense pulsed broadband light;
  • Electrolysis Hair Removal — for hair of any color, including blond and gray hair, and for precise work on small areas.

Laser and photoepilation heat melanin, the dark pigment in hair, so they work best on dark hair. Electrolysis destroys the hair bulb with an electric current and does not depend on hair color. Laser and IPL treat large areas quickly, while electrolysis treats each hair individually, so it is chosen for the face and small areas.

Methods can be combined: for example, the main area can be treated with a laser, and any remaining light hairs with electrolysis.

Your first visit

At the consultation, the doctor examines the skin and hair in the treatment area, checks for contraindications and any medications you take, and looks at moles and spots in the area to be treated. The doctor then explains which method is right for you, how to prepare, and why a course of treatments is needed. If hair growth may have hormonal causes, the doctor will recommend further tests.

The main rule for laser hair removal and photoepilation is no tan: these procedures are not performed on tanned skin. Before treatment, the area is shaved, and plucking or waxing is not allowed during the course. Before electrolysis, on the other hand, the hairs need to grow out a little.

Who sees patients

Narine Felixovna Karapetyan — dermatologist and trichologist with 10 years of experience. She graduated from Mkhitar Heratsi Yerevan State Medical University and is a Candela-certified specialist. As a dermatologist, she assesses not only the hair but also the skin in the treatment area, and after the procedure she will explain how to care for the treated area.

Questions & answers

Which hair removal method should I choose?

For dark hair, laser hair removal or photoepilation is usually suitable; for blond, red, and gray hair, electrolysis. The doctor makes the final choice at the consultation. Learn more in the article “Light and Gray Hair: What Laser and Electrolysis Can Do”.

Why is a course of treatments needed?

Hair grows in cycles, and a single session can only treat the hairs that are actively growing at that time. Some follicles are “dormant” and will produce hair later. The doctor determines the number of sessions and the interval between them at the consultation.

Can I have hair removal in summer?

Yes, as long as your skin is not tanned and you protect the treated areas from the sun. Learn more in our articles on laser hair removal in summer and on resuming a course after a tan.

Do you offer hair removal for men?

Yes. The laser hair removal price list includes separate areas for men: back and shoulders, chest, abdomen, neck, beard line, and others.

How much does hair removal cost?

Current prices are listed in the tables on the service pages: by area, by number of flashes, or by time, depending on the method. The doctor will give you an exact treatment plan and cost after the consultation.
